Since Europe 72 was the album that got me in to the Dead , I am biased, and it wasn''t till much later I heard tapes of this tour . It is funny to me to imagine someone knowing the shows before the album , but here you are ! I still think it is a great Dead album ( maybe the last in the "great" period ), but the the more complete tapes/cds of the shows render it obsolete, for me , but then again, I rarely listen to the regular albums anyway .
As for Live Dead, I think the old LPs sound better than the cds. I think , in an effort to tame that hiss, they chopped of some of the "air', and feel of "you are there" . But you also get into the anolog/vinal vs digital/cds debate .
But part of me sure wishes I had a great turntable rig, and clean copies of some of my favorites . Even with the hiss, the that Dark Star was magical on LP .
